Our speech therapists work across language, cognition, literacy, motor speech, and alternative communication, so families in Surrey and the Fraser Valley can access the right support under one roof.

Receptive & Expressive Language

Supporting understanding of language and the ability to express ideas using appropriate vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure.

Cognition & Executive Functioning

Speech therapy intervention targeting attention, memory, problem-solving, organisation, and self-regulation as they relate to communication.

Dyslexia & Literacy Support

Strengthening the underlying language skills required for reading, spelling, and academic success, in collaboration with educators when appropriate.

Speech Sound Disorders

Assessment and treatment of articulation and phonological patterns to improve speech clarity and intelligibility.

Motor Speech Disorders & Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS)

Specialised, evidence-based speech therapy targeting motor planning and coordination through structured, repetitive, multi-sensory practice.

Fluency (Stuttering & Cluttering)

Intervention for difficulties with pitch, volume, vocal quality (e.g., hoarseness), and vocal hygiene.

Resonance

Therapy addressing airflow and resonance differences (e.g., hypernasality), often for individuals with a history of cleft palate or velopharyngeal dysfunction.

Assessment and implementation of low-tech (e.g., picture-based systems) and high-tech (speech-generating devices) communication solutions for individuals who cannot rely on spoken language alone.

Funding and Coverage

Our speech therapists have experience working with a range of public and private funding sources. Eligibility and coverage vary by program and individual circumstances.

Coverage varies by provider and plan. We provide detailed receipts for reimbursement. Some plans may require a physician’s referral.
Autism Funding Program (Current Program – Transitioning)
Children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder
The Autism Funding Program remains available and continues accepting eligible families until March 2027. HearBear clinicians can provide services through approved funding pathways. Families currently receiving funding will transition to the new BC Children and Youth Disability Benefit. (gov.bc.ca)
BC Children & Youth Disability Benefit (CYDB)
Children and youth with eligible disabilities and support needs
A new needs-based provincial funding program being phased in from 2026–2027. Funding levels are based on a child’s functional support needs rather than diagnosis alone. Families may be contacted directly by MCFD regarding eligibility and transition. (news.gov.bc.ca)
BC Children & Youth Disability Supplement
Families with eligible children under 18 who qualify for the federal Disability Tax Credit (DTC)
Income-tested supplement providing up to $6,000 annually to help families pay for therapies, supports, and services. Available beginning in 2027. (Disability Alliance BC)
Jordan’s Principle
First Nations children (on or off reserve)
Supports health, educational, social, and developmental services. Direct billing may be available with approval.
At Home Program (MCFD)
Children with severe disabilities or complex support needs
Some At Home Program therapy supports are transitioning into the new Disability Benefit model. Families may continue to access eligible supports during the transition period. (AutismBC)
Charitable Funding & Grants
Families meeting financial and/or medical criteria
We accept funding from organizations such as Variety – The Children’s Charity, CKNW Kids’ Fund, and other approved community funding sources.

Funding programs in British Columbia are currently undergoing significant changes: Eligibility, funding amounts, and program requirements may change as the Province transitions from diagnosis-based funding models to the new BC Children and Youth Disability Benefit system. Our team is happy to help families understand available funding options and provide the documentation required for funding applications and reimbursement.

Your Questions, Answered.

No referral is required to book an assessment or therapy sessions. However, some private insurance plans may require one for reimbursement.

Your speech therapist will conduct standardised testing, clinical observation, and a detailed parent/caregiver interview. Findings are used to develop a personalised therapy plan.

Sessions are usually 30, 45, or 60 minutes, depending on age, attention, and therapy goals.

Yes. With written consent, we collaborate with teachers and school teams to support consistency across environments.
Yes. Telepractice sessions with a HearBear speech therapist are available for families who prefer virtual support or live in remote areas.
